Gautam is Open To Coaching; not Politics
The just-retired Gautam Gambhir rejected rumours around him joining politics but he indicated that he was open to coaching at the big stage.
The 37-year-old Former Indian Opener walked into the sunset by scoring a memorable hundred in his farewell Ranji Trophy match against Andhra at the Feroz Shah.
For him Twitter was always a platform which is very important and where he take up social issues.
He last played for the country in 2016 against England in Rajkot.
Gambhir scored 4154 runs in Test cricket from 58 matches, 932 in T20Is and 5238 runs in ODIs.
Gambhir is the one and only Indian and one of four international cricketers to have scored hundreds in five consecutive Test matches. He is the only Indian batsman to have scored over 300 runs in four consecutive Test series.
He said that he is keen on taking up coaching assignments in competitive cricket.
He is excited for action and he was sure action is not about sitting in those AC and luxury rooms doing commentary and stuff. He didn’t know if he was going to be as good a coach as he has been a player.
He is a left-handed opening batsman and has played domestic cricket for Delhi.
He wants to be a successful coach. Let’s see, if that comes around and if he feel that he has the energy, passion and if he has the commitment to do it, he will think about it.
He responded in the negatively when he was asked if he will enter cricket administration at some point.
Gambhir distributed all his bats to his team-mates, leaving his kit an empty bag.
Gambhir said he is willing and excited to help young players in Delhi cricket.
He said that he is still a government nominee. He can now try and contribute more now (since he is no longer a player). There won’t be any conflict involved. This is very important and there won’t be any criticism as well because when I took this up there were a lot of criticism.
Boys need a lot of good things in DDCA (Delhi District and Cricket Association) and finally he was able to put that word across the executive committee and get those things done from cricket point of view. His job is to get the best out of the boys and the required time.
